A solo presentation by Tan Wei 

The title of the exhibition, ‘Indéfiniment’ is a comprehensive concept behind Tan Wei’s

world of imagery in the two series of work that are presented here. In “Indefiniment”

where the title of the exhibition is derived from, Tan Wei utilises the sight of the primordial

ocean as the holding site of all life forms to look into the character of the ocean whom we

share an inexplicable form of affinities. Here, the sight of the ocean is transformed

metaphorically into that of an untouchable sight, an irreversible past. For even though the

ocean has once sustained and nurtured us, we no longer live in full compatibility with it in

its unmediated state. The work that is presented here thereby, forms a bridge for the artist

in her meditation on the liminality between arrival and departure whose lines are often

blurred where we are led into the sublime world of “Equatorial Grey”–where we peek into

the living quarters of the artist to look at the influence of the lived environment that is

unfolded through the fleeting narrative of the butterfly; the protagonist within the artist’s

subconscious . Here, the series is unfolded as pieces rather than as a whole as it calls for

the viewer to experience the artist search for answers by piecing the puzzle to these

virtual realms as they walk through the exhibition.
